About Cara Cheska

Cara has made quite a name for herself as a successful rider and trainer.  At a young age, Cara was awarded the blue ribbon in the Medium Pony Stake on Debonaire at the Washington International Horse Show.  She continued her success by placing 5th at the prestigious Maclay Finals and 5th at the USEF Talent Search Finals.  She closed out her prosperous junior years by winning team gold at the Prix des States Junior Jumper Championship with McLain Ward, Nicole Shahinian-Simpson, and Darren Graziano.

While she rode for many professionals as a junior, she has gone full circle with Tom Wright and Hayley Barnhill to train John Ingram on his jumpers. She started in New Jersey and worked with Steve Rivetts, Nona Garson, Sharyn Cole, and Emil Spadone. From there, she moved to Southern Pines, North Carolina and worked with Maryann Steiert Charles and Ed Minchin.

While being married and with the help of Donald Cheska, she continued her success into the Amateur Owner Jumper and Grand Prix rankings. Some of her accomplishments include earning the WEF High Amateur Owner Circuit Champion twice, 2006 AGA Rookie of the Year, three Grand Prix wins, and multiple top placings around the country.  Cara has had the wonderful opportunity to compete at outstanding venues including The American Invitational, Grand Prix de Penn National, and the Grand Prix of Devon over the years.

Cara currently competes and wins in all levels of jumper divisions ranging from the young jumpers to international Grand Prix.  She also is very experienced at developing young, winning hunters from the Baby Green ring to the Performance Hunter divisions.  Cara's success in the show ring and passion for the sport provide her with years of knowledge to better assist her clients.  Her students have had immense success at top shows across the country including Capital Challenge, Devon, ASPCA Maclay Regional Winner, Pennsylvania National Horse Show, Washington International Horse Show, and Wellington Equestrian Festival. She also trains her young daughter Chapin, who is following in her footsteps as she competes in the jumpers and pony divisions with her ponies, Sports Fan and Beaumont.
